The Web is Spiritually Blingee: How New Media Curated my Interactions and Interests

"It takes all the running you can do just to keep in the same place."
— Lewis Caroll

Growing up, I spent my days sat before a spectacle of shows and films that ran in our cable TV for hours on end. Each one of my favorite series influenced my mannerisms that even when I would converse with myself, it's almost like my favorite characters are the ones talking to me. This would shape how I interact with media in the future.

Modern media allowed the free flow of information within my tiny screen. I learned to navigate the vastness of the Internet. As someone who had been granted unsupervised internet access as a child, I was raised by 2000's-2010's online social platforms such as Amino, Tumblr, and Discord, as well as online multiplayers such as RuneScape and Club Penguin. Leetspeak, typing quirks, niche forums, and obnoxiously verbose walls of texts had users there in a chokehold, so I had to learn them in order to integrate.
